Influencer and content creator Zaid Darbar, son of seasoned music composer Ismail Darbar, has opened up about the difficult emotional impact of his childhood following his parents’ separation. In a recent interaction, he revealed that his life changed drastically after his parents split when he was just 10 years old, and that he began living on his own soon after. His candid recollection sheds light on the responsibility he took on at a young age and how those early struggles shaped his outlook on life.
Zaid said his early years taught him hard lessons about responsibility and independence. “My childhood has taught me a lot,” he told Mirchi Plus. “When you are 10 and your parents get separated, and they get married again… Emotionally, we were damaged. Since the age of 12, I have lived alone, alone as in alone.”
He also reflected on his early confrontation with financial realities after his family split. “I understood at the age of 10 that you have to work hard and you have to make money to manage your household. I understood that you can’t do anything without making money.” During that time, he took on several responsibilities, including supporting his younger sister and working as a dancer and trainer with Shiamak Davar’s troupe to earn.
His comments underline how his family’s breakup and his early independence left a lasting impact on him, shaping both his personal resilience and sense of responsibility well into adulthood.
Ismail Darbar, best known for his iconic compositions in films such as Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas, has spoken publicly about his two marriages and the circumstances surrounding his relationships. In past interviews, he discussed his second marriage and denied forcing his second wife, formerly known as Preeti, to convert to Islam, emphasising that she did so of her own accord. “She dresses me till this day, she ties my shoelaces,” he said, highlighting her continued role in his life.
