Passengers have been diverted to Edinburgh airport after the pilot declared a ‘mid-air medical emergency’ on Monday afternoon.
American Airlines flight AAL161 from Athens to Chicago departed just after 11am on September 29 and was forced to land in the Scottish capital.
There were unconfirmed reports of an ’emergency’ onboard the aircraft.
A statement from FlightRadar24 on X, formally known as Twitter, reads: “#AA161, Athens-Chicago, diverting to Edinburgh. United Airlines have been approached for comment.

Back in February, Edinburgh Live reported a United Airlines flight reportedly declared a mid-air emergency after issuing a squawk 7700 alert. The flight departed from New York at 11.27pm on Sunday February 2.
