Trossard, Gabriel, Gyokeres – Arsenal injury latest and possible return dates vs Chelsea | Football London

Last weekend, the Gunners came out as 4-1 winners over Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby. They then followed that up with a comprehensive 3-1 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The two results leave them at the top of the table in both competitions.

They are back in Premier League action this Sunday as they travel to take on second-placed Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Before the game, there are six points separating the two sides in the table.

A busy week and the upcoming busy Christmas schedule can take a toll on squads, and that’s no different at Arsenal with the team having a few injury worries.

With that in mind, here is the latest news from the treatment room at the Emirates Stadium.

Injury: Muscle

The Belgian was forced off in the first half of the midweek Champions League win against Bayern Munich, having felt something in the back of his calf.

What Arteta has said: “With Leo, there is another test today, we’ll have to see how he’s feeling, and it doesn’t look like much, so we still have a few hours, and we’ll have to wait and see.”

When asked if there’s a chance that he could be available, he said: “There is a potential chance, yeah.”

The defender suffered the problem on international duty with Brazil, causing him to miss the last two games.

What Arteta has said: “I think he’s evolving really, really well. We have to wait for the scan a little bit longer to be more precise in terms of the timings.

“I’m quite confident, especially the way Gabi takes every injury and the way he’s going to push everybody that it’s not going to be that long.”

In response to whether Arsenal fans might see Gabriel back before the end of the year, Arteta added: “I don’t know. We have to wait and see.”

The striker has been out of action since the 2-0 win over Burnley at the start of the month.

What Arteta has said: “In the next few days, they’re going to have a repeat scan to see how everything is and where we can push them for the weekend.”

Arteta has confirmed that the striker has taken part in a behind-closed-doors friendly in the next step in his recovery from a serious knee injury.

What Arteta has said: “Obviously, he’s been out 11 months, and you need that progression. You need to see how his body reacts and what else does he need. The players that we have available as well. It has to make sense to have the right balance in the squad. It’s a good thing he’s very, very close at the moment.”

Like Gyokeres. Havertz has undergone a repeat scan as he closes in on a return.

What Arteta has said: “They are getting closer and closer. We are very positive with both of them and that’s it.”
