Cyclone surfers: Locals catch waves as tropical cyclone Luana descends on region Cain AndrewsBroome AdvertiserFri, 30 January 2026 2:54PM
Broome surfers hit the beach as the rest of the town was bunkering down to escape the rough and rainy weather brought on by tropical cyclone Luana.
The cyclone descended on the Kimberley between January 24 and 26 as a category two system, although Broome managed to avoid the brunt of it.
It did bring swell to the usually flat and pristine waters of Cable Beach, however, with local surfers taking the opportunity to jump on their boards and catch some waves.
