KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Sindh Chairman Haleem Adil Sheikh on Saturday congratulated the people of Karachi for their enthusiastic reception of CM KP Mohammad Suhail Afraid to listen to party president Imran Khan’s message on January 9, asserting that the city continues to be a stronghold of the party.
Addressing a press conference at Bagh-e-Jinnah alongside PTI Chairman Karachi Raja Azhar, General Secretary Arsalan Khalid, Fahim Khan, Balochistan President Dawood Shah Kakar, Alamgir Khan, Barrister Shujaat Ali Khan and other senior leaders, Haleem Adil Sheikh said that CM KP Mohammad Suhail Afrii and party delegation were in Sindh to convey the message from Khan to the public through a street movement. The first phase of the campaign includes visits to Karachi, Hyderabad and Jamshoro, with the delegation currently in Hyderabad for the second day. He said the reception in Karachi was “proud and historic”, with party supporters greeting Khan’s representatives with enthusiasm and commitment. “On January 9, the people of Karachi demonstrated their support for Imran Khan’s message. This proves that the city has always been and will remain the stronghold of Imran Khan. The people of Pakistan stand firmly with Imran Khan,” Sheikh said. Sheikh criticized the provincial authorities for obstructing the PTI’s plans. Following Chief Minister Suhail Afridi’s announcement of his visit to Sindh, the provincial government offered protocol and security, but the PTI clarified that it was not demanding official treatment, only seeking constitutional and political freedom to engage with the public. He said formal requests had been submitted to the Eastern Deputy Commissioner for permission to hold a rally at Bagh-e-Jinnah. Security charges amounting to PKR 2.5 million have been deposited with the Mazar-e-Quaid committee, with receipts obtained. “Although all legal requirements were fulfilled, no written permission or NOC was given. At 5:15 p.m., the gate of Bagh-e-Jinnah was suddenly closed and the police blocked the entry of materials,” Sheikh said. Sheikh announced that the party would now hold its rally at the Mazar-e-Quaid Public Gate on Sunday, January 11, at 2 p.m., instead of the originally scheduled 4 p.m. Chief Minister Suhail Afridi will also be present and address the meeting. He urged the people of Karachi to participate in a “peaceful and robust” manner. “PTI is a peaceful political party.
