The Night Agent returns to Netflix for a third series, featuring Gabriel Basso as Night Action agent Peter Sutherland. In the latest episodes, he embarks on his most challenging mission yet without Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) by his side. With another terrorist attack looming, he must identify the planners whilst trying to locate Jay Batra (Suraj Sharma), who plays a vital role in the plot.

The third series of the Netflix show sees Louis Herthum reprise his role as Jacob Monroe, the illicit intelligence dealer who has Peter firmly under his control as he makes his demands. Peter had agreed to surrender Jay to him in return for information about corruption within the US Government and Security. Both sides intended to betray each other, leading to disastrous results for Peter.

At the same time, he was keen to recruit journalist Isabel De Leon (Genesis Rodriguez) to learn what he could about the imminent terrorist attacks. Meanwhile, Secret Service agent Chelsea Arrington (Fola Evans-Akingbola) harboured doubts about the First Lady of the United States (Jennifer Morrison) and risked her safety to uncover the truth. Here’s everything you need to know about what transpired in The Night Agent season three, including some tragic deaths.

One of the most shocking revelations in the third series came at the beginning of the season, when Peter and his handler Catherine (Amanda Warren) had arranged to betray Monroe. Peter was fitted with a covert microphone which was capturing his discussion with Monroe and Jay, enabling Catherine and her colleagues to determine the optimal moment to strike.

Nevertheless, Monroe was ahead of the game and had predicted he would be ambushed, so he dispatched a decoy vehicle to fool Catherine. As Catherine moved towards the van which she thought held Peter, Jay and Monroe, the van, which had been rigged with explosives, detonated. Given Catherine’s proximity to the vehicle, she was thrown violently backwards and was found lying motionless on the ground. In the subsequent episode, Peter and Aiden Mosley (Albert Jones), deputy director of the FBI, confirmed Catherine was officially dead.

In the closing episodes, the US President (Ward Horton) instructed his longstanding associate and Night Agent Adam (David Lyons) to eliminate Chelsea, having discovered she had uncovered his connections with Monroe. Whilst travelling by car, Adam aimed a gun at Chelsea, who attempted to wrestle the weapon away from him. In the ensuing fight, Adam’s vehicle overturned and both sustained injuries.

Against the odds, they both lived and Chelsea fled into a neighbouring barn. Upon learning Chelsea was in danger, Peter ultimately tracked her down. Peter and Chelsea managed to get away, whilst Chelsea’s fiancé Theo attempted to prevent the publication of a fabricated story alleging it was Chelsea who had connections to Monroe. Fortunately, Chelsea survived the incident and she and Theo were last seen making arrangements for their wedding.

After his confrontation with Chelsea, Peter and Freya, who had collaborated closely with Monroe, tracked down Adam at a train station. Adam, who had been manipulated into thinking Peter was the enemy, raised his gun prepared to shoot the Night Agent.

However, Peter succeeded in persuading him to stand down and he lowered his weapon. He did not die, but was left seriously wounded. His present location is unknown as he was not seen again after the confrontation with Peter.

When Isabel visited Freya to persuade her to admit everything about her involvement with Monroe, Isabel’s father, they received unexpected visitors. The US President had dispatched two men to eliminate both Isabel and Freya, as together, they possessed enough information to reveal the corruption in the White House.

Whilst it appeared unlikely they would survive, they both succeeded in fleeing from Freya’s flat, but Isabel was swiftly captured by one of the men. Fortunately, she was subsequently rescued by Chelsea, who located her attacker and confronted him. At the conclusion of the series, Isabel informed Peter she would be spending several months away in Barcelona.

During his confrontation with Adam, Peter was shot in the leg, leaving viewers questioning whether he would ultimately succumb to his injuries. Freya informed Adam that Peter was telling the truth about the corrupt President and, despite a tense standoff between Adam and Peter, Adam backed down at the eleventh hour.

Fortunately, he survived and made a complete recovery, as did Jay, who had also been shot at the beginning of the series. Jay later appeared on a news network to provide insight into the entire saga.

In the season’s final moments, Freya (Michaela Watkins) conducted a live broadcast interview with Isabel, confessing her ties to the President and his wife, which resulted in the downfall of the White House administration. Having handed over vital information, Freya was granted her freedom under a new identity as ‘Nina’, evading arrest.

Earlier in the series, the assassin known as The Father (Stephen Moyer), whom Freya had hired to eliminate Peter among other targets, told her he was retiring from his profession. He decided his son’s life was more important and no longer wished to put the young boy in danger, a decision that didn’t sit well with Freya. She warned him to always be on guard, as she would eventually come after him.

Her threat wasn’t forgotten by The Father, who changed his accent and assumed a new identity as ‘Henry’ by the season’s end. He went to a bar where he knew Freya would be, and slipped a fatal dose of poison into her drink, killing her to prevent her from pursuing him or his son.

After it emerged that Monroe was Isabel’s father, he did everything he could to help Peter with his investigation, hoping to reconcile with his daughter. However, once the President determined Monroe had become a liability, he instructed Adam to eliminate him and make it appear as suicide.

Adam shot Monroe in the head, then wiped his fingerprints from the weapon and placed it in Monroe’s hand. When Peter finally arrived at the scene, Adam informed him that Monroe had taken his own life.
