Demolition of part of Hertford Street for the City Centre South project is now almost completed. Contractors have removed the staircase to make way for a new accessibility ramp near CeX.
City Centre South is a £450m project designed to deliver a mixed-use development featuring approximately 1,500 homes, shops, and community spaces, as reported by CoventryLive. It is being led by the Hill Group.
Construction of the new Hertford Street ramp is ‘progressing well’ and is scheduled to open to the public next Monday (November 24). Project Director Stuart Bale said it will enhance accessibility for pedestrians and those with mobility needs.

In a statement to CoventryLive, the Hill Group said: “Work on the Hertford Street ramp is progressing well, and we expect to open it to the public the week commencing November 24.”
Buildings, including Barracks Car Park and City Arcade, have already been flattened as part of the project. Hertford House is currently being demolished.
Around 1,575 new homes will be constructed across 18 buildings, encompassing areas such as the Bull Yard, Shelton Square, and Hertford Street. Construction is expected to span around 10 years, with Mr Bale projecting completion by 2034.
A spokesman for Coventry City Council said: “Work continues on City Centre South, the ambitious regeneration project that will change Coventry. Barracks Car Park and City Arcade have now been demolished, and the full demolition of the site is expected to be completed by 2026.
“City Centre South will bring new homes, green spaces, retail and leisure opportunities to the city centre. It is all part of our work to make Coventry a great place to live, work and visit.”
