Co-founders of Tools for Humanity, Sam Altman and Alex Blania, met with Argentina’s President Javier Milei to discuss potential investments in the country, according to The Block.
The company is the developer of tools for the Worldcoin project. The main product of the latter, the World ID protocol, is based on zero-knowledge proofs. It serves as a tool allowing individuals to verify their identity using biometric data or a phone number.
In December, the project released an updated version, World ID 2.0, integrated with several platforms, including Telegram, Reddit, Shopify, and Minecraft, for passwordless authentication.
“During the meeting, [the Worldcoin team] discussed the development of artificial intelligence, how to prepare humanity for AI, and potential investments in Argentina,” the statement said.
Worldcoin’s operations have raised data protection concerns among regulators in several countries, including Argentina. The project has also attracted interest in the UK, France, Germany, and Kenya. Authorities in the latter rejected a US government request to lift the suspension of the project in its jurisdiction.
In March, Portuguese authorities ordered Worldcoin to halt biometric data collection for 90 days. This decision followed a similar ban in neighboring Spain.
Back in November 2023, Milei, who positioned himself as a Bitcoin supporter, won the presidential election.
The new government approved the use of the first cryptocurrency as a contract currency, and the president proposed the legalization of digital assets.
