South Africans across the country will soon be able to bask in the magic of the Corona Sunsets Festival without leaving their homes after the SABC was officially named the exclusive broadcaster of the event set to take place on September 13 in Muldersdrift, Gauteng.
The partnership between Corona and the SABC will see the festival aired across SABC1, SABC3 and SABC Plus, offering viewers a front-row seat to world-class performances, jaw-dropping visuals, and the “more than music” moments the festival is known for.
This year’s festival marks 100 years of Corona “under the sun” and features Jeremy Loops, Ndlovu Youth Choir, Oscar Mbo, Major League DJz, 340ml and more.
Fans can catch a one-hour pre-show special airing on SABC3 from 7pm to 8pm followed by a two-hour live broadcast from 8pm to 10pm on SABC 1. The full experience will also be available on SABC Plus for on-demand viewing.
The festival will unfold at the Casalinga venue in Muldersdrift.
This marks the first time the Corona Sunsets Festival will be televised. Viewers will witness the globally renowned “Sunset Moment”, Daniel Popper’s immersive art installations, trapeze acts and workshops rooted in mindfulness, creativity and sustainability.
“Corona Sunsets Festival is about celebrating creativity, culture and connection under the setting sun,” said Melanie Nicholson, head of brand: Corona South Africa.
“SABC as the official broadcaster allows us to share the experience with millions of South Africans for the first time so everyone can be part of the magic, even from home.”
The broadcast will also include exclusive artist interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, time lapse clips of the festival build and aerial views of the event in full swing.
There will also be a Sustainability Spotlight showcasing the festival’s “Protect Our Sunset” initiative, aligning with Corona’s Blue Seal certification and ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility.
For the SABC, the partnership is another milestone in its long-standing dedication to uplifting local culture and entertainment.
“Our live broadcast of the Corona Sunsets Festival marks an exciting moment for South African entertainment,” said Dichaba Phalatse, marketing manager for SABC video entertainment.
“Bringing the festival to our platforms for the first time reflects our commitment to celebrating local artistry and culture and the power of shared experiences.”
