BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Army and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have joined the ICRC Border Mission to assess civilian Impact and reaffirm their commitment to civilian protection under international principles.

From January 20 to 23, 2026, the Royal Thai Army, in close coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, facilitated officials from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in conducting a field mission in the provinces of Sa Kaeo, Buriram, and Sisaket. The purpose of the mission was to gather information on the humanitarian impact on civilians resulting from recent military operations by Cambodian forces along the border.

During the mission, the ICRC delegation met with provincial government representatives to receive briefings on the situation affecting civilians. The delegation subsequently conducted field observations and in‑depth interviews with affected residents in Khok Sung and Ta Phraya districts of Sa Kaeo Province, Ban Kruat District of Buriram Province, and Kantharalak District of Sisaket Province.

The ICRC’s activities were conducted strictly in accordance with the principles of humanitarianism and neutrality. Findings from the mission will be reported directly to the relevant government agencies of both Thailand and Cambodia, serving as a basis for coordinated assistance and problem‑solving efforts.

This mission underscores the Royal Thai Army’s commitment to supporting humanitarian organizations and safeguarding the welfare of civilians in line with international humanitarian principles, a responsibility that Thailand has consistently upheld. (NNT)
