Nick Sirianni hired 33-year-old Sean Mannion as the Eagles’ new offensive coordinator after conducting 17 interviews. Mannion, a longtime NFL backup quarterback, has two years of coaching experience with Green Bay and no play-calling history. He spent one season as an entry-level assistant before serving as quarterbacks coach, where he worked with Jordan Love during his improvement and helped backup Malik Willis rebuild his value ahead of free agency.
The decision follows a disappointing offensive season in Philadelphia, where former coordinator Kevin Patullo’s inexperience with sequencing was criticized. Despite Mannion’s lack of play-calling experience, Sirianni prioritized detail, conviction, and schematic vision over résumé credentials.
The Eagles plan to shift toward a system rooted in Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay concepts, emphasizing integration of the passing and running games with increased play-action and under-center usage for quarterback Jalen Hurts. Sirianni noted that both the passing attack and a rushing game that declined last season will be focal points in the overhaul.
Sirianni said the hiring reflects a long-term belief in Mannion’s potential, describing him as a high-upside coach whose clarity, preparation, and offensive vision made him the top choice despite more experienced candidates being considered.
