Fremantle have moved swiftly to lock down one of their most valuable young assets, with Rising Star contender Murphy Reid inking a two-year extension to remain at the club until at least the end of 2029.
Reid becomes the latest in a string of key Dockers to recommit to the club over the past 12 months, adding two more seasons onto his existing three-year deal after arriving at the club as their top pick in last year’s draft.
It’s a key signing for Fremantle, with the Sandringham product turning heads with his daring and composed play across half-forward to emerge as a pivotal player in his debut season.
“Since joining the Freo family, Murphy has demonstrated a strong sense of professionalism to learn and improve his game,” Freo’s head of player personnel David Walls said.
“He came to the club as a midfielder and has transitioned to a new role in attack after working closely with our coaches – and the entire playing squad – to add to his game.
“Moving to WA, Murphy has been able to develop strong relationships with his teammates and has established a good connection with his host family.
“It’s obviously been a strong year on-field as a first-year player, so it’s pleasing to be able to reward that form with an extension. Clearly, he is happy and wants to be a part of what we are building at Fremantle.”
Last year’s Pick 17 has featured in every game this season after debuting in Fremantle’s season opener, and wasted no time making his mark.
Reid has booted 16 goals and dished off 10 goal assists while averaging almost 14 disposals per game.
He joined Geelong great Tom Hawkins as the only two 18-year-olds to have recorded multiple matches of 4+ goals in the first 11 matches of a career, while ranking alongside Errol Gulden and Cyril Rioli as the only players with 17 or more score assists through their first 10 games.
