Class action payouts and a dip in market share following two people being given the wrong embryo has hit the bottom line at fertility giant Monash IVF.
Posting half-year financial results on Thursday, Monash IVF revealed it had lost 2.5 per cent of the Australian market share in the second half of 2025.
The company’s Australian market share has dipped from 21.5 per cent to 19 per cent, in all states except South Australia and the Northern Territory.
“Negative media impact on market share most pronounced in jurisdictions with Monash IVF branding,” the results say, in one of the few references to the scandals.
In April, the company apologised after a patient unknowingly gave birth to a stranger’s baby.
In June, it was revealed Monash IVF incorrectly transferred the wrong embryo into a Melbourne patient.
In August 2024, Monash IVF agreed to a $56m settlement following a class action being filed, alleging the company destroyed embryos due to an inaccurate genetic screening program.
These scandals have weighed on Thursday’s financial results.
While the class action payout was accounted for a year ago, the company’s net finance costs increased $1.1m in the first half of this financial year mainly because of borrowing needed to cover the payout.
The company says specialist staff have remained loyal.
“Fertility specialists retained despite the challenges of last 12 months – demonstrates their loyalty, commitment and alignment to Monash IVF,” the company says.
Also operating in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, Monash IVF reported half-year revenue being down 1.8 per cent to $137.9m.
Underlying profit after tax fell 34 per cent to $10.4m.
“Revenue decrease largely driven by industry softness and domestic IVF market share loss; partly offset by price growth, international and other revenue streams,” the company says.

“Monash IVF has a strong clinical heritage, a dedicated team of specialists and embryologists, and a trusted national footprint.
“My immediate focus is on clinical and operational excellence, supporting our clinicians and ensuring consistent, high quality patient experience across the network.
“At the same time, we remain committed to executing our strategy and delivering sustainable value for shareholders.”
