The ministry said it expects the ordinance to receive approval at the earliest possible time
The Ministry of Education has announced that the ordinance to establish Dhaka Central University has been finalised.
After completing all procedural steps at the Secondary and Higher Education Division, the final draft of the ordinance was sent to the Cabinet Division on Sunday. The ministry said it expects the ordinance to receive approval at the earliest possible time.
The ministry said the Secondary and Higher Education Division went through several key stages before finalising the ordinance. These included seeking opinions from relevant ministries and divisions, inviting public feedback through the ministry’s website, holding consultation meetings with teachers, students and civil society representatives, and obtaining expert opinions.
According to a press release, the primary objective of finalising the draft ordinance was to create a framework capable of ensuring quality undergraduate and postgraduate education, while reflecting reasonable public expectations and addressing existing concerns.
The ministry noted that the process reached its final stage through the patient cooperation and constructive engagement of all stakeholders, and that progress was regularly shared with the public through press releases.
The release also said that establishing a sustainable, world-class university requires fundamental and infrastructural reforms to be implemented in an orderly, phased and appropriate manner. Any disruption or disorder at any stage could jeopardise the entire initiative.
As the ordinance now awaits approval at the highest level of government, the ministry urged all concerned to refrain from programmes or activities that may cause public suffering or disrupt normal life. It warned that emotionally driven or unstable situations could undermine the long-standing efforts and achievements linked to the initiative.
The Ministry of Education expressed hope that, through continued patience and mutual cooperation, Dhaka Central University can be formally launched soon, opening a new horizon in the expansion of higher education in Bangladesh.
