Nottingham Forest aren’t giving up on signing Celtic midfielder Arne Engels and have raised their offer for the Belgian, according to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph.
The Scottish Premiership giants have already failed with two bids for Engels worth as much as £17.3 million. The Bhoys seemed eager to keep hold of one of their star men before the January transfer window closes at 7 PM GMT.
Forest remain keen to sign the 22-year-old and have now submitted a third bid for the player which could tempt the Scots into a sale. He has been a mainstay in the starting lineup this season, posting four goals and two assists in 23 league games.
Celtic Receive Another Offer From Forest For Engels
Forest’s latest offer is worth up to £25 million, including an initial £20 million payment and £5 million in add-ons. The Belgian has just over two years left on his contract at Celtic Park.
Engels joined the Bhoys from the German side Augsburg in August 2024 for £11 million, and he has since won the Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup. But his side has struggled this season and as a result trails Hearts by six points in the title race.
Celtic had informed Forest that the player wasn’t for sale after they received a second bid in the early hours of deadline day. But this didn’t deter the Tricky Trees from continuing to pursue the Belgium international.
Engels could be a good fit for Sean Dyche, whose side needs more physicality in the middle of the park in their fight against relegation. He’d be competing with the likes of Ibrahim Sangare and Elliot Anderson for a starting berth.
Martin O’Neill made his stance on the Belgian clear when news of Forest’s interest was put to him. He said he’d only consider a £100 million sale.

Forest look set for a busy last few hours of the January transfer window as they close in on the signing of German left-back Luca Netz. They have reportedly agreed on a deal with Borussia Monchengladbach, and the 22-year-old is undergoing a medical.
