The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has inaugurated an enlightenment campaign to promote Federal Government policies and programmes in Delta.

The Director-General of NOA, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, was represented by Mrs Rebecca Nasamu, the Director of Special Service, NOA at the inauguration on Monday in Asaba.

Issa-Onilu emphasised that the campaign was aimed at engaging the public in the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory and 774 local government areas.

He said that taken the campaign to the nook and crannies of the country was enable members of the public to speak their minds to the policies.

“It’s also to enable them ask questions and get answers on programmes and policies of government that they require further clarity on, ” he said.

Issa-Onilu noted that some of the policies included government programmes, flooding and disaster preparedness, national security awareness, national value re-orientation among students and youths as well as the Nigerian identity and national symbols sensitisation, among others.

He explained that under the NELFUND Student loan, President Bola Tinubu had ensured that no Nigerian person, who had qualified to go for tertiary education, was prevented from doing so.

According to him, the loan is available to all qualified Nigerians who are schooling in public tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

On the Social Safety Nets Expansion, Issa-Onilu said that Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) has been done to more than two million households that were enrolled nationwide.

“Renovation of 700 rural schools is in the process of being undertaken nationwide as an intervention to improve the state of schools in the rural areas in Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure.

“The National Youth Investment Fund is being coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Youth along with other stakeholders.

“‘N110 billion has been dedicated to support 150,000 youths across the country,” he stated.

Issa-Onilu also emphasised the importance of disaster preparedness, citing recent devastating floods in states like Niger, Kogi, Rivers, Anambra, and Bayelsa.

He urged citizens to adhere to advisories from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) to mitigate the impact of floods.

The D-G commended the media for their support and assured that the campaigns would be conducted through news conferences, town hall meetings, and advocacy visits across the country.

The State Director of NOA, Mrs Tracy Ikolomi also appreciated the media’s partnership in enlightening the public on government policies and programmes,

“We will continue to tell the people about government policies and programmes and activities, as well as take back feedback to government,” Ikolomi stated.

She added that the campaign was to foster a better understanding of government initiatives and encourage citizen engagement. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
