A passenger train has derailed in Denmark leaving several people injured in what is being described as a “serious” incident.
Two carriages are understood to careened off the tracks after a collision with a truck late this afternoon. The DSB train was on its way from Copenhagen to Sønderborg via Fredericia.
Images from the scene show the underside of a carriage visible from a window of the train as well as a completely destroyed truck separated from its trailer. The crash sparked a major response from the emergency services and the police with several helicopters and ambulances at the scene.
South & Southern Jutland Police said in a statement: “We are present at a train accident with several injured people near Tinglev. We are massively present with the rest of the rescue response.
“We need peace and quiet at the scene and unauthorized persons must stay away from the scene. We will announce further information via press releases as soon as possible.”
A resident living near the site of the crash called Johnny Balling Nielsen told local media: “We heard a bang. Shortly after, we could smell a strange, metallic smell.
“We can hear all the sirens and what’s going on.”
