For Matt Nagy, the 2025-26 offseason is best described as a roller coaster. The thrills of early unfolding opportunities have given way to a series of disappointing turns, and it looks like Nagy might be heading back to the station with nothing to show for his efforts.
Nagy was reportedly in contention for four different head coaching opportunities this offseason, but given the latest news reports coming out of Arizona, the former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator is down to one. That’s because the Cardinals have a rumored trio of finalists to replace Jonathan Gannon.
Dianna Russini of The Athletic is reporting that the Cardinals are eyeing former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, L.A. Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile for the job. That leaves Nagy and other contenders on the outside looking in.
Nagy was previously connected with the Baltimore Ravens’ post but they selected Jesse Minter to replace John Harbaugh. The Tennessee Titans were also considering Nagy, but they went with Robert Saleh as Brian Callahan’s permanent replacement.
After serving as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator for the last three seasons, Nagy’s contract came to an end of the 2025 season. That left the position open no matter what happened with Nagy’s head coaching opportunities, and the Chiefs went ahead and hired Eric Bieniemy as a replacement. Nagy replaced Bieniemy in the role back in 2022, so it’s a full-circle moment for all parties involved.
Nagy still has some hope that the Las Vegas Raiders might come calling, since they’ve not yet hired a head coach. Nagy has also interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles about their offensive coordinator role. But the doors are quickly closing for Nagy with teams scrambling to fill their staffs before the offseason really gets underway. That feeling is a lot different now than it was when his postseason began.
