Stena Line have announced that plans for a proposed new technology park has been approved by Anglesey council. Outline planning permission has been secured on the 220-acre Prosperity Parc, the former Anglesey Aluminium in Holyhead.

The scheme will include over 220,000 sqm of data centre, industrial and office development as part of a new low-carbon campus. It will also include a battery energy storage system benefitting from the site’s existing grid connection.

Prosperity Parc is the first major site to come forward as part of Anglesey Freeport, sitting within the Freeport’s “Anglesey Prosperity Zone” tax site. Following the announcement of the approval of the Freeport’s Full Business Case, the success of the technology park’s planning application marks a major step forward in delivering on the key growth commitments of the Freeport.

At its peak, the proposals are forecast to generate up to £578m of growth in the local economy each year and create around 1,200 jobs. The construction phase would see a further 890 jobs created on top of supply chain opportunities.

In addition to new jobs, the project will channel targeted investment into local training, education, and skills development – ensuring that communities across Anglesey benefit from increased opportunities close to home. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox

Ian Hampton, Managing Director of Anglesey Freeport, Stena Line, said: “We are delighted to have received approval for Prosperity Parc. This development reflects our commitment to Anglesey and Anglesey Freeport, helping us to deliver on the promises of the Freeport, creating jobs for the people of Anglesey, protecting the Welsh heritage and language, and boosting economic growth across North Wales. We will now focus on working with our partners and the local community to deliver more detailed plans as we continue to invest in Anglesey.”

Anglesey County Council’s Head of Regulation and Economic Development, Christian Branch, said: “Securing outline planning permission is another significant step forward for Prosperity Parc. This important milestone is critical to the redevelopment of this strategic, brownfield site, which will contribute towards realising the delivery of the wider Anglesey Freeport vision.”

“The proposed development will help deliver significant levels of jobs and investment in the site which will drive growth and bring wider socio-economic benefits to Anglesey and North Wales.”

“The application has been thoroughly assessed by the Council and stakeholders to ensure it delivers meaningful social, economic and environmental benefits for the local community, and has been approved subject to a number of planning conditions.

“The full planning application will now be progressed in accordance with the statutory planning process.”

Following the granting of outline planning permission, more detailed designs, including the site’s layout, appearance, access and landscaping will come forward.
