Man Utd learn newly-set price tag from Premier League club this afternoon for ‘ideal’ forward target

Manchester United have been informed of the price it will take to prise one target from Premier League rivals Chelsea this summer.

The player in question is none other than Christopher Nkunku, who was linked with a mid-season switch to Old Trafford on loan in January before a deal failed to materialise.

Now, the 27-year-old outcast is adamant about parting ways with Chelsea following a nightmare two-year spell in London.

To say Nkunku’s time at Stamford Bridge has been disappointing for all parties is an understatement, hence why he’s now desperate to embark on a new venture in hopes of reviving his currently stagnant career.

After Chelsea forked out £50 million to sign him from RB Leipzig, the French international oversaw an injury-plagued maiden campaign, limiting him to only 14 appearances and just 516 minutes of playing time across 2023/2024 in all competitions.

Last season, Nkunku was available for the majority of the term, but had fallen in the pecking order thanks to Chelsea’s overcrowded attacking contingent. As a result, he was granted a measly nine Premier League starts, but did rack up 46 appearances in total – including four at the ongoing Club World Cup – whilst returning 15 goals and five assists.

Despite manager Enzo Maresca hailing him as an ‘ideal’ forward, both the player and the Blues have decided it’s best to call it quits sooner rather than later.

With INEOS now floundering to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s frontline in time for 2025/2026 getting underway, they have reignited their pursuit of Nkunku, and have been told that a fee of £35m will get a deal done in the coming weeks, as per The Mirror.

The price tag is likely to be out of INEOS’ budget as it is, but they definitely shouldn’t be considering a bid for such an injury-prone option – just look what happened the last time they did business with Chelsea when acquiring Mason Mount.
