OTTAWA — Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont has left the Conservative caucus and the Toronto Star has confirmed he will be joining the Liberal party, ahead of crucial confidence votes expected later this week.
A senior Liberal source, who was not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed d’Entremont would be crossing the floor with an announcement expected later this evening.
On Tuesday afternoon, Politico reported that d’Entremont said he was considering joining the Liberals and Conservative sources confirmed to the Star that he then resigned in a letter to leader Pierre Poilievre.

A former provincial MLA, d’Entremont narrowly won his riding of Acadie — Annapolis in the 2025 election. He served as deputy speaker in the last parliament, but was not elected to that post following the election.
Appearing on CBC’s Power and Politics, the Conservative’s deputy leader Melissa Lantsman said d’Entremont was betraying his constituents.
“Chris has made a choice and I think the choice is not to fight inflation, not to fight for lower grocery prices and lower the cost of homes like his constituents elected him to do,” she said. “I suspect that if, Chris was deputy speaker, that he probably wouldn’t resign.”
