Kingdom 2 Officially Cancelled:After months of anticipation, fans of Vijay Deverakonda’s 2025 action thriller Kingdom were recently left disappointed: the much-talked-about sequel, tentatively called Kingdom 2 is officially shelved, not just postponed. Producer Naga Vamsi confirmed in interviews that the follow-up won’t be moving forward, putting to rest all the speculation about the franchise’s continuation. He didn’t beat around the bush; instead of suggesting future possibilities, he straightaway said: “Yes, there is no Kingdom 2.” His manner indicated not a temporary halt but a firm decision.
The release of Kingdom in cinemas in July 2025 was accompanied by very high expectations. The film, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and featuring Vijay Deverakonda in the role of a morally torn officer-turned-spy, was designed to look like the first chapter of a bigger saga with a strong sequel hook. However, not even the hype and the actor’s impressive performance could save the film’s box office collections from being just about Rs 80-85 crore.
The film received a mixed reception from both critics and the general public. Although Vijay’s performance and certain action scenes got the nod, the film’s slow pacing and incoherent storytelling disappointed a section of the audience. The mixed reactions were enough to cause an online argument regarding the question if the Kingdom actually merited a second part.
In an interview following the film’s release, Vijay Deverakonda spoke openly about how he processed the response. He shared that a conversation with Rashmika Mandanna, his long-rumoured partner, helped him reflect on the project with perspective.
According to Vijay, Rashmika reminded him to appreciate the positive aspects of Kingdom’s reception instead of dwelling too much on box office numbers. He mentioned that talking with her helped him see some of the film’s success in a different light, especially regarding the audience’s reaction to his performance even if the commercial results weren’t where he hoped.
This candid acknowledgment resonated with many fans, not just because of Vijay and Rashmika’s relationship, which itself has been a popular talking point in media circles but also because it revealed how artists internally process both praise and criticism when a major project doesn’t soar as expected.

Producer Naga Vamsi’s language in recent interviews has left little room for interpretation. He openly said that revisiting Kingdom’s performance or dwelling on the sequel risks “hurting” director Gowtam Tinnanuri’s reputation or morale suggesting that creative pride and responsibility played into the decision just as much as the financial outcome.
Despite the cancellation, Naga Vamsi reassured fans that his collaboration with director Gowtam Tinnanuri is far from over. “But yeah, we will collaborate with Gowtam. He is doing a different film now. After that we will do a film,” he shared.
Importantly, Vamsi also confirmed that he and the director will continue to collaborate on new projects, so the end of Kingdom 2 doesn’t signal bad blood or the end of their professional relationship. This was emphasized as a positive takeaway amid somewhat disappointing news for franchise hopefuls.
For Vijay Deverakonda, Kingdom was meant to be a comeback after a string of mixed performances at the box office. While the sequel won’t move forward, he isn’t slowing down, several new projects, including the action film Rowdy Janardhana slated for 2026, are already lined up. This shows that his commercial trajectory isn’t defined by one film’s results, and audiences can expect him to explore diverse roles going forward.
Kingdom 2 was one of the more talked-about potential sequels in recent Telugu cinema, partly because Kingdom itself felt structured for continuation, and partly because Vijay’s stardom has consistently drawn fan investment.
