Children watched on in horror as a “topless” man “covered in blood” bolted through a busy shopping centre. At around 5.30pm on Wednesday, July 22, police received a report that a 32-year-old man had attended Marsh Lane police station in Bootle for a probation appointment.
He was arrested at the station for a recall to prison due to a breach of his licencing conditions. The man then fled from officers and was arrested nearby a short time later on suspicion of escaping from lawful custody. He has now been recalled to prison, police said.
One witness, who heard “loads of sirens” around the time of the incident, told the ECHO: “I saw a man on the other side of the road running towards the Strand [Shopping Centre]. He entered by the bus depot doorway and went up the escalators.
“He was covered in blood with no top on and a t-shirt wrapped around his hand which was also soaked in blood. Kids were crying because they saw him covered in blood.”
The witness added the man had left a “trail of blood” through the shopping centre.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that a man has been arrested and recalled to prison following an incident in Bootle on Wednesday July 22.
