
MP Boys book ticket to grand final after taking down Tigers

MP Boys have claimed their ticket to the Broome Basketball Association’s semester two grand final after taking down Tigers at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre basketball courts on November 19.
The two teams went basket-for-basket for the first half of the opening quarter before MP Boys jumped to the lead after a string of successful baskets from Rhys Hajinoor, Clive Djigaween, Sawia Wosomo and Christopher Oakley, 18-13.
MP Boys continued their surge with another seven baskets in the second quarter while Tigers’ Jarman Cox tried to gain back some ground, scoring four of Tigers’ seven baskets and bringing the margin to six points before half-time, 33-26.
Tigers’ Mohamed Desouky, James Joshua Manaloto and Cox traded basket-for-basket with Djiagween and Oakley in the third term to reduce the margin to 3-points going into the final quarter, 42-39.
It was a low-scoring final quarter, but MP Boys secured the 53-43 win after scoring seven baskets.
Djiagween, Oakley, and Damon Enosa led the team’s offence, while Cox scored Tigers’ only two baskets of the quarter.
MP boys’ Christopher Oakley scored the most for his team with 17-points while Jarman Cox led the scoring for Tigers on 14-points.
Tigers are now set to play Bombers in the preliminary final on November 26.
In the men’s social competition, Hornets came out on top in the qualifying final against Broome Best Cleaning Services, 51-42, with Hornets’ Kobe Corpus leading the scoring for the match on 15 points while Jerome Geneston scored the most for his team on 13-points.
In the elimination final, Peninsula Bombers recorded a close win over Peninsula Bombers, 39-32, with Bombers’ Seth Malcolm leading the scoring on 11-points while Isaac Torres scored the most for Misfits with 10-points.
Bombers will now face Broome Best Cleaning Services in the preliminary final.
* In the women’s competition, Raiders scored a one-sided win over Drifters in the elimination final, 50-16, with the Raiders’ Jeremia Wiggan top scorer of the match on 19 points while Delycca Cox and Jacinta Djiagween led the Drifters with 4-points each.
In the qualifying final, Lady Nets took down Lady Tigers, 45-29, with Melynd Hunter scoring an impressive 20-points for Lady Nets while Katelyn Parriman led the charge for Lady Tigers scoring 10-points.
Lady Tigers now go on to face Raiders in the preliminary final.
