India has emerged as the leading country in cryptocurrency adoption for 2025, according to the sixth annual Chainalysis Global Crypto Adoption Index. The United States follows closely in second place. The ranking reflects the growing interest in digital assets and blockchain technology in both countries.
The report highlights that the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region has become the fastest-growing market for crypto. In the year ending June 2025, total crypto transaction volume in APAC rose sharply from $1.4 trillion to $2.36 trillion. Countries like India, Vietnam, and Pakistan played a major role in this surge.
Latin America also saw significant growth, with crypto adoption rising by 63%, while Sub-Saharan Africa experienced a 52% increase, showing that digital currencies are increasingly being used for everyday payments and remittances in emerging markets.
Sumit Gupta, Co-Founder of CoinDCX, said, “It is truly remarkable to see India secure the top spot in the Global Crypto Adoption Index for the third year in a row. Our young population has consistently embraced innovations, from the internet to blockchain. Today, India has over 1,200 Web3 startups and has attracted more than $3 billion in funding.”
He added that India’s share of global Web3 developers has grown from 5% to 12% over the past decade, making it the world’s second-largest blockchain developer hub. “With a clear policy framework, India can turn this strength into a strategic national advantage, potentially adding $1 trillion to the economy and creating over 800,000 jobs by 2030,” Gupta said.
The report also notes that regulatory developments are helping legitimise crypto adoption. In North America, the approval of spot bitcoin ETFs and clearer institutional frameworks have encouraged wider participation. Meanwhile, stablecoin regulations are evolving globally.
In the EU, the MiCA stablecoin regime has paved the way for licenced euro-backed stablecoins, while the proposed GENIUS Act in the U.S. has attracted strong institutional interest.
The Chainalysis report shows a broad shift in crypto activity toward the Global South, where adoption is driven by real-world utility. India’s leading position reflects not only technological capability but also growing consumer and institutional interest in digital assets. Analysts say this momentum could help the country establish itself as a global hub for blockchain and Web3 innovation in the coming years.
