Autumn is just around the corner, bringing with it cosy nights in and a host of cinnamon-infused treats.
However, it also signals the prime time for indoor spider sightings as they seek shelter from the rain and falling temperatures. Although most spider species in the UK pose no threat, their unexpected appearances can startle many homeowners.
Fortunately, there’s a straightforward, natural way to deter them – and you likely already have the essential ingredient in your kitchen cupboard, reports the Express. White vinegar proves to be an excellent deterrent for these eight-legged intruders, but the application method is crucial to its success.
White vinegar serves as a potent spider repellent due to its strong smell and acidic properties. “The scent of the vinegar will deter spiders and make them less likely to settle in your home,” highlighted pest control expert Robert Collins at MyJobQuote.co.uk.
To create this natural repellent at home, simply mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. While it might be tempting to spray this concoction everywhere, its true strength lies in strategic placement.
Apply it around potential entry points – especially door frames, window sills, vents, and other gaps where spiders might gain access. Regular treatment of these “key locations” forms a natural barrier against spider invasions. For a more efficient solution and a delightful aroma, you can enrich your white vinegar spray with a few drops of lavender and peppermint essential oil.
Robert suggested: “Add 15 – 20 drops of peppermint oil to a spray bottle with water and spritz this in any areas where you’ve noticed spiders in the home.”
