Homicide squad detectives believe a missing man is dead following a tip-off that led forensic investigators to a residential property.
Jayden Stewart Selfe, 33, last had contact with his family in May, then three months later a tip-off to police led detectives to investigate his mysterious disappearance.
Forensic investigators were at a home on Money Rd at Attadale, in Perth’s south last week but would not disclose why they were there.
The police commissioner has now revealed Mr Selfe did not live at the address, but officers went there to verify information they received about the suspicious disappearance.
Commissioner Col Blanch said the homicide squad had now taken over the investigation.
“We have now conducted a full forensic operation, essentially looking for evidence that might help us find Mr Selfe,” he told ABC Radio.
“We are deeming his disappearance suspicious, we are fully investigating that disappearance, and we are very concerned for his welfare.”
Mr Blanch said police believed Mr Selfe was likely dead but did not want to rule out the possibility that he might still be alive.
“We still have more investigating to do, but we are very concerned about his welfare based on the investigations that we have conducted at that premises and further information we have received,” he said.
“We’ve done a full forensics inspection of that premises, and again, we have grave concerns for his welfare.”
Mr Blanch said they did not believe organised crime or bikies were involved at this time, and Mr Selfe’s disappearance was confined to people very close to him.
Police urged anyone with information that can help police locate Mr Selfe to contact Crime Stoppers.
