Donald Trump sat down with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other European leaders to engage in Ukraine war talks at the White House on Monday with Fox News interrupting their live broadcast to go live from the Oval Office. Both leaders were hit with questions from the media when the US President issued a “sad” admission.
One reporter asked: “Do you think the American media even want a peace deal? Because you’ve seen they have been so critical of you, every step of the way as you lead the charge for peace.” It comes following Trump’s summit in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
It has been questioned whether the US president will be able to bring about a peace deal amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Trump made two big claims on Tuesday when he announced that he wants peace deals instead of ceasefires, and that he has ended six wars since he became president, the Express reports.
Trump responded: “The level of hatred and animosity is incredible. Not with all [media]. We have great people up here but we also have terrible people up here. In solving all of these wars, they don’t even write about it.
“I’ve solved major wars – wars that have been going on for 35 and 37 [years]. No matter what deal I do, from my standpoint, you’ll come out good [pointed towards President Zelensky] and Putin will come out good. But they’ll say Trump was absolutely horrible.”

Trump and his administration have taken credit for helping to settle the conflicts between Israel and Iran, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, Cambodia and Thailand, India and Pakistan, Serbia and Kosovo, and Egypt and Ethiopia.
Trump continued: “I’ve lived with it for a long time. I lived with it during the first election. I used to get great publicity, but now I get the worst publicity anyone has ever gotten in office but I won in a landslide.
“So the people understand and they’re all that matter, ultimately.”
He concluded: “It’s very sad when you do the right thing. Because of the fact that Vladimir Putin came on American soil. This was a tremendous defeat for Donald Trump. It was a really wonderful thing he done it. It was a hard thing for him to do.
“It was the opposite of what they said. If [Putin] didn’t come they would have said it’s bad news for Trump.”
His remarks come after Trump’s declaration that he did not desire a ceasefire in Ukraine after his meeting with Putin in Alaska last week where the Russian president initially demanded that Ukraine cede control over territory in the country’s southeast before negotiating a ceasefire.
However, by Monday’s meeting with European leaders, Trump said he was no longer pursuing a ceasefire.
He told Zelenskyy: “If you look at the six deals that I settled this year, they were all at war. I didn’t do any ceasefires. I don’t think you need a ceasefire.”
