Former Middle Tennessee cop indicted on felony charges linked to botched child predator sting

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WTVF) — A former Millersville police detective has been indicted by a Robertson County grand jury on aggravated perjury and official misconduct charges, accused of lying under oath about his role in a botched child predator sting.

Todd B. Dorris, 50, of Greenbrier, turned himself in for booking at the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office late Tuesday afternoon after being notified about the indictment.

The indictment, which was unsealed Wednesday morning, followed a lengthy criminal probe by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Aggravated perjury — lying under oath in an official proceeding about a significant fact — is a Class D felony, which is potentially punishable by two to 12 years in prison. Official misconduct is a Class E felony, which carries a possible penalty of one to six years.

The arrest comes exactly a year after an exclusive NewsChannel 5 investigation raised questions about whether Dorris was truthful in his testimony about his role in a child predator sting run by Millersville police in May 2024.

That operation was carried out with the help of a group of self-appointed pedophile hunters known as Veterans for Child Rescue (V4CR).

A Nashville man was arrested after he bicycled to Millersville allegedly believing he was going to have sex with a 12-year-old girl he had met online.

Despite a state law that such operations must be conducted by sworn law enforcement officers, a former V4CR team member provided NewsChannel 5 Investigates with video and audio recordings showing that she and other volunteers were posing as the minor.

Yet, when the one case from the operation went to court for a preliminary hearing, Dorris swore under oath that he and another Millersville detective were the ones who actually posed as a minor.

He described Veterans for Child Rescue as only being there to consult with police.

“You and the other detective actually did all the typing and all the data entry. They just advised certain things to say and so forth?” prosecutor Jason White asked.

“Yes, sir,” Dorris agreed.

Later, the prosecutor asked, “You either took their advice or didn’t take their advice?”

“Yes, sir,” Dorris answered.

After NewsChannel 5 raised questions about the truthfulness of Dorris’ testimony, a Robertson County grand jury refused to indict the suspect, who was then released from jail.
