Johansson looks back on that viral reaction online to the latter. “It was such a funny, silly thing,” the superstar tells Entertainment Weekly at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was there with June Squibb promoting her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great.
The actress, producer, and now filmmaker confirmed she and husband Colin Jost didn’t really talk about the internet reaction at home, but acknowledges, “It was on everybody else’s mind.”
Observers around the world seem captivated by the touchy-feely nature of certain actors, including Johansson and Bailey, but also Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby on the Fantastic Four: First Steps promo tour. “I think actors are just…We have such extraordinary experiences that are in extreme conditions,” she says. “We live as a family for months, you know, so it really feels [like] we have a lot of love for one another.”
Jost previously joked about the red carpet exchange between his wife and her colleague, who is openly gay. “I was like, I guess in Jurassic Park terms, the attack always comes from the raptor you never thought was there,” the comedian said in jest to Entertainment Tonight. “Of all the threats out there, I wasn’t thinking it was Jonathan!”

Jost also acknowledged how “people really blow it out of proportion if someone kisses their friend hello, it’s really nuts.”
“Jonathan and I were at the red carpet,” he added. “We were like, I guess we have to kiss now? Close the loop?”
Bailey himself talked about the viral love fest, saying, “I believe in being able to show the love in all different ways and if you can’t kiss your friends… life is too short not to.”
