The family of a ‘kind and loving’ motorcyclist who died in hospital days after a collision have expressed their “deepest gratitude” to the paramedics and staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for their tireless help.

Pat O’Shaughnessy, aged in his 40s, sustained critical injuries after a collision involving a van and a motorcycle at John Street, Dublin Road, Drogheda shortly before 7:10am on Friday.

Emergency services rushed Pat to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda but sadly he was pronounced deceased on Sunday, August 31.

A post on RIP.ie read: “It is with deep sadness we announce the death of Pat O’Shaughnessy, on August 31 2025, unexpectedly following a tragic accident at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, in the presence of his loving family.

“Beloved son of Patrick and Kathleen and dearly loved brother of Grace and Ian.

“Pat will be deeply missed by his loving family, partner Olga, nephew Seán, brother-in-law Jacques, aunts, uncles, cousins, work colleagues and many many friends.”

Following the news of Pat’s tragic passing, the loving motorcyclist’s family have extended their “deepest gratitude” to the many emergency workers who helped Pat following the collision.

They shared: “Pat’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the paramedics that attended the scene and to the doctors, nurses and staff of the I.C.U. Department of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda in particular Pamela, Tasha and Enrico and to everyone who has supported us over the last few days.”

Pat will repose at St. Paul’s Church Dooradoyle Wednesday, September 3, from 5.30pm to 7pm. A requiem mass for Pat will be held on Thursday, September 4, at 1pm, funeral afterwards to Castlemungret Cemetery, Mungret.

One mourner wrote: “Very sad to hear of Pat’s passing. Played rugby with Pat in school, he was a fine rugby player when we managed to get him away from the water and his rowing commitments.

“Great craic to be around and an overall sound lad. Very sorry to hear of this. Thoughts with you all during this difficult time.”

A colleague penned: “The kindest, nicest and most loving happy person I’ve ever met. I was blessed to have him as my manager in Screwfix ,all the staff there are family, not work colleagues and he made it the place ever to work as it never felt like work…. the world lost an absolute diamond and heaven has gained one of the absolute best gentlemen you could wish for. Loved and missed so much already Pat”.

While one more added: “Very sad and shocked to hear of your passing a good friend and a great guy. I had the pleasure to have had many brilliant memories down the years. Thoughts go out to your family In this heartbreaking time”.
