Is Doctor Strange the TRUE villain of Avengers: Doomsday? A rumor suggests that the Sorcerer Supreme may not be as benevolent as he seems.
The rumor mill has answered plenty of questions heading into Avengers: Doomsday. Where has Steve Rogers been, what role do the X-Men play, and whether or not Ghost Rider will ACTUALLY appear. However, there has been one blindspot that scoopers have been mysteriously silent on: what the heck is going on with Doctor Strange?
All signs point to Doctor Strange appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, though not playing as big of a role as he will in Secret Wars. Though even if this wasn’t basically confirmed by cast interviews, it would seem odd that the character most-tied to the multiverse would be left out of the start of the end of the Multiverse Saga. That being said, there may be a good reason the rumor mill has been keeping things to themselves.
The latest rumor from DanielRPK teases that Doctor Doom will have a right-hand-wizard during the events of Avengers: Doomsday. And while the insider doesn’t outright state that this character WILL be Doctor Strange, the description provided certainly makes the character seem Doctor Strange-adjacent at the very least.
“Doom’s right-hand man is a wizard who can use a sling ring. He wears a mask similar to Doom’s, but with a slot for a third eye on his forehead.”
While this rumor does seem odd, it does line up with the character arc set up for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Saga. Nearly every variant of the Sorcerer Supreme has turned truly evil in their pursuit of protecting the multiverse. By joining up with Doctor Doom, our version of the hero will begin down that path, only to potentially turn good in his final hour.
