Draymond Green has spent his entire NBA career with the Golden State Warriors, but that long-standing partnership may be nearing a crossroads as the trade deadline approaches.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Golden State has included Green in active trade discussions ahead of the deadline later this week, most notably in conversations tied to the Milwaukee Bucks and star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, Yahoo reports. Green’s contract has become a key piece in those talks, largely due to its flexibility and his availability.
“To make the salaries match, the Warriors have to put either injured wing Jimmy Butler III or Green in the deal,” Slater reported. “Green has a smaller and easier-to-redirect contract, and he is currently healthy and able to contribute to a contender.”
If Golden State ultimately moves Green, it would signal a definitive shift for a franchise defined by continuity. Still, Green has publicly projected calm amid the uncertainty.
“I’ve been here for 14 years,” Green said recently when asked about his future. “If I’m traded, that’s part of the business. I ain’t losing no sleep, though.”
With Green’s name circulating in trade conversations, renewed attention has also landed on his long-evolving relationship with LeBron James. A New York Post story published Tuesday revisited Green’s candid reflections on James, including one lingering regret.

“I’ve always wanted to play with him,” Green said. “Not saying I wanted to go to his team. I’m very comfortable with 30 and what we’ve built. But Steph and LeBron got the opportunity to take the court together in the Olympics. I’ve always wanted the opportunity, just to experience it and see how he thinks.”
Green has suggested that his on-court incident with Jusuf Nurkic cost him a chance to compete alongside James at the Paris Olympics in 2024, potentially missing what could have been his third gold medal run.
That missed opportunity continues to resonate, even as Green has emphasized that he does not see a clear path to sharing a locker room with James.
“I don’t see a path to it,” Green said three weeks ago, before his name surfaced in current trade discussions.
The timing of Green’s comments has drawn attention, particularly with James’ future also in focus. The 41-year-old has hinted that retirement could come after this season or the next, and he is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Recent reporting from NBA insider Jake Fischer added another layer, noting that both sides may be nearing a turning point. Fischer stated on Feb. 2 that the Los Angeles Lakers are prepared for the possibility of moving on, while James may be open to a change as well, per Sports Illustrated.
That backdrop has fueled hypothetical trade frameworks circulating around the league, including multi-team scenarios involving Golden State, Los Angeles, and the Brooklyn Nets. While speculative, those discussions underscore how interconnected Green’s future and James’ timeline have become during this deadline window.
Regardless of how the next few days unfold, Green and James remain central figures in one of basketball’s defining rivalries. What began as mutual animosity evolved into respect, collaboration, and a shared appreciation for each other’s approach to the game.
