Netflix proves to be a goldmine for docuseries, spanning everything from true crime documentaries to historical programmes. However, one streaming enthusiast believes they’ve released the finest one “in ages”, and it might deserve a spot on your viewing list.
Actor Alex Nicola used his @alexthefilmguy TikTok account to highlight the series he’s been enjoying, and now others are eager to watch it themselves. In the video, Alex remarked: “Netflix has done it again, they’ve dropped another amazing documentary series and this one got under my skin in a way I did not expect. I’ve only watched the first three episodes and I can already tell this is one of my favourite things they’ve put out in ages.”
The Netflix programme is titled True Haunting, which Alex described as a “paranormal docuseries from James Wan [Executive Producer]”. Alex added: “He is the director of The Conjuring and Saw. He hasn’t actually directed any of the episodes but you can definitely feel his presence and his style. It’s all over this, and that’s what’s making it feel super special.”
Alex proceeded to clarify that there are five episodes, divided into two cases, meaning “it doesn’t feel bloated like a lot of these kind of shows normally do”. Despite being a paranormal “sceptic”, he finds himself becoming “drawn in”.
The opening case is titled Eerie Hall, which tracks a college student who “starts to experience really weird things when he moves into his dorm”. The television enthusiast appreciates the “natural” feel of the interviews.
He further commented: “There’s no acting, you can feel the fear and trauma as they’re telling their story and that’s the clever thing about this. Even if you don’t believe, you still sympathise with them.”
He was also taken by the reenactments, describing it as a “cinematic horror disguised as a documentary”, which makes it “interesting, absorbing and scary enough even if you think the rest of it is just baloney”.
In the meantime, the second case, This House Murdered Me, narrates the tale of a family experiencing peculiar occurrences whilst refurbishing their Victorian home. Many viewers concurred with Alex, with one individual stating: “I watched it all tonight. I’m currently in bed with the light on!!” Another chimed in: “Binged all five episodes last night. I need more!!!!!” and a third remarked: “I just started watching this earlier today, I’m only on the first episode and I’m hooked.”
