
MEADVILLE – Freshman Colsen Frank (Grove City High) and senior Luke Roberts both recorded top-10 finishes Saturday morning to help the Grove City College men’s cross country team take fourth out of 18 teams at Allegheny College’s Ben Mourer Memorial Classic.
Grove City finished the meet with 97 points. Baldwin Wallace won the meet with 52 points. Geneva and Slippery Rock tied for second with 95 points while Denison claimed fifth with 98 points. Saint Francis placed sixth with a team score of 100.
Frank captured fifth place overall by recording a time of 27 minutes, 24 seconds. Roberts followed seven seconds later, earning seventh place with a time of 27:31.
Senior Michael Singley crossed in 23rd place with a time of 28:16 while freshman Kaiden Williams finished 34th (28:33).
Freshman Tyler Davis secured 38th place with a 28:37 clocking. Senior Caleb Hawke (Grove City High) took 53rd place (29:05) and junior Eli Miller rounded out the lineup with a time of 29:23, which placed him 68th overall.
The race featured 186 men. Saint Francis freshman Carlos Cheruiyot won the race in 27:01.
Grove City will compete Oct. 3 in Lehigh University’s Paul Short Run.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
MEADVILLE – GCC placed fifth Saturday morning at Allegheny’s College’s 18-team Ben Mourer Memorial Classic.
Grove City accumulated 144 team points to place second among Division III programs at the meet. Division II Slippery Rock won the event with 39 points and Division I entry Saint Francis took second with 53 points.
Grove City placed three runners in the top 35, led by a 14th-place finish from senior Audrey Karwowski. Karwowski posted a time of 25 minutes, 12 seconds.
Sophomore Rebekah Burger placed 29th with a time of 26:13 while sophomore Julianna Lindberg took 32nd with a time of 26:21.
Sophomore Abigail Nelson earned 41st in a time of 26:46. Freshman Erika Doolittle finished 59th (27:19) and classmate Lydia Wheaton followed in 67th place with a time of 27:48.
Freshman Ali Parish rounded out the scoring lineup with a time of 27:51, good for 73rd place.
The race featured 158 competitors. Unattached runner Chloe Bonson won the event in 22:49.
Grove City returns to action Friday, Oct. 3 at Lehigh University’s Paul Short Run.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
GROVE CITY – The Grove City College women’s volleyball team dropped a 19-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-13 decision Saturday afternoon to visiting Thiel (7-3, 2-0) in Presidents’ Athletic Conference North Division action at the Grove City College Arena.
Senior Lila Stonehouse led Grove City (6-3, 0-2) with a season-high 12 kills while junior Sarah Hart recorded 10 kills.
Senior setter Brooklyn Wirebaugh tallied 17 assists and junior Sarah Harris added nine assists. Wirebaugh and sophomore libero Lilly Wojtala both served two aces.
Wojtala also led Grove City’s defense with 14 digs. Junior Alayna Dorst contributed 11 digs.
Junior Kendra Klusch chalked up a team-leading five blocks. Sophomore Lilly Pool had three blocks while Hart, Stonehouse and junior Lily Lagaras all had two blocks.
The Wolverines will visit Allegheny at 7 p.m. Wednesday in conference action.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
GROVE CITY – Grove City College closed its non-conference schedule Saturday afternoon by dropping a 3-0 decision to visiting Penn State Behrend at Don Lyle Field. The Lions (4-1-2) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, then sealed the win with two goals in an 11-minute span of the second half.
Junior goalie Maddie Mills made a career-high 11 saves for Grove City. Her previous career best, 10 saves, came Wednesday night against No. 19 Carnegie Mellon.
Penn State Behrend outshot the Wolverines, 26-7, including a 14-5 edge in shots on goal. Behrend also had a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
Rachel Sikeri scored at 18:51 to give Behrend the lead. In the second half, Rori Kostos doubled the lead by scoring at 54:23. Emily Samluk sewed up the win with a goal at 65:24.
Grove City (1-4-2) will visit Bethany in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference opener Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
NEW WILMINGTON – The Westminster College women’s soccer program was shut out 5-0 by visiting Buffalo State Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex.
Westminster is now 0-4-2. Buffalo State’s record stands at 3-4-2 after Saturday’s victory.
Buffalo State scored three first half goals. Emily Maczka netted the first of the match off Makenzie Below’s assist in the second minute. Gwen Jarosz scored in the sixth minute off a Maczka assist before Below scored in the 23rd minute off Riley Stevenson’s assist.
Nicole Bobcik scored the first of two second half goals in the 47th minute. Lindsay DePietro closed out the scoring in the 59th minute.
Buffalo State outshot Westminster 32-9 and had 19 shots on goal to the Titans’ four. The Bengals had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Senior Amanda Lewis (Slippery Rock High) registered three shots on goal for the first time since finishing with three in a 5-2 victory over Bethany on Oct. 25, 2023. Senior Morgan Murphy had 11 saves in the first 62 minutes, her highest single-game total since Sept. 8, 2024 at Carnegie Mellon. Junior Emily Codere made three saves over the final 28 minutes.
Westminster will open its Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) slate Wednesday against Waynesburg. The match is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m. at the UPMC Sports Complex.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
NEW WILMINGTON – In its first home action this season the Westminster College women’s volleyball team earned a pair of three-set victories Saturday at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium, defeating Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Geneva before posting a win over Penn State DuBois.
Westminster improved to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Westminster 3, Geneva 0: 25-15, 25-19, 25-18
The Titans have now won five of their last eight matchups with the Golden Tornadoes. After watching Geneva get out to an early 8-1 lead in the first, Westminster used three-straight services from junior Anna-Kate Davis to pull to within one, 9-8. Trailing 10-8, the Titans ripped off 11-straight points to take a 19-10 lead. Junior Liv Trent had three of her eight kills during the run. The lead changed just once in the second period, but after stringing together eight-straight points later in the match, Westminster went up 11, 21-10. Geneva climbed back to within four, 21-17, after scoring eight-straight points down the stretch before Trent secured the set win with the last of her five kills in the set. The third set was a back-and-forth affair, with senior Rachel LaSalvia knotting things up at 12-all with her second kill of the set. LaSalvia added two more kills to extend the lead to three, 17-14, before a Geneva timeout. The Golden Tornadoes pulled to within four, 22-18, late but a kill by senior Charlotte Burgan, followed by a Geneva attack error and bad set, sealed the three-set win.
LaSalvia reached double-digit kills for the fourth time this year, finishing with 10 while hitting .267. She added 11 digs for her third double-double this season. Trent finished with eight kills, 16 digs and three blocks. Senior Angie Nardone totaled 13 assists and six digs while Davis finished with nine assists and five digs. Junior Maggie Shadle added 13 digs.
Abigail Glumac led Geneva with nine kills.
Westminster 3, Penn State DuBois 0: 25-7, 25-8, 25-11
Fourteen players saw action for the Titans in the nightcap. Megan Darno and Burgan finished with seven kills each while sophomore Morgan O’Brien had six kills, 17 assists and six digs. Freshman Mackenzie Ging added four kills, four service aces and 11 digs. Freshman Halle Albers finished with six service aces and a pair of digs in the win.
R’eylee Paradis had two kills and five digs for Penn State DuBois.
Westminster will host Hiram in another conference clash Wednesday. The opening serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
