
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — It’s a cold start to 2026, with Code Purple shelters operating on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2 in Asheville, according to Asheville-Buncombe Continuum of Care press releases.
There will be two women’s shelters:
* Safe Shelter – located at 27 Balm GroveTransit route: W2, W1, W6
* ABCCM Transformation Village (for women and women with children) – located at 30 Olin Haven WayTransit route: W2

There will also be two men’s shelters:
* Safe Shelter – located at 91 New Leicester HighwayTransit route: WE1 West
* Salvation Army – located at 204 Haywood StreetTransit route: W5, WE1 West, WE2 West
For couples and people with pets:
* AHOPE – located at 19 N. Ann StreetTransit route: W5, WE1 West, WE2 West

Entry for all shelters begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m., according to the Asheville-Buncombe CoC. Sobriety and ID are not required for entry.
Transportation through the Asheville Rides Transit (ART) is free to all sites beginning at 5:20 p.m. and the following morning to downtown.
