ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi has made it clear that he will act strictly in accordance with law and will not grant any special relief outside the legal framework in cases involving PTI founder Imran Khan.
According to party sources, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan met the Chief Justice on Friday and later briefed senior party leaders about the discussion. During the meeting, the CJP reportedly said it would proceed “within the rules” and indicated that any query regarding Imran Khan’s health should be filed with the appropriate legal forum.
Sources said that lawyer Gohar had sought speedy relief directly from the Supreme Court instead of pursuing the matter in the Islamabad High Court. The PTI wants Imran Khan to be shifted to a hospital of the party’s choosing in Islamabad and has also demanded that his personal doctors be allowed to examine him in jail.
The same day, the Supreme Court returned a petition filed by the PTI seeking transfer of its founder to Shifa International Hospital for specialized eye treatment by retina experts. The request requested immediate medical examination and treatment due to concerns about his eye condition.
Earlier, on February 25, Khan’s lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa filed a petition in the apex court under Order XXXV, Rule 6 of the Rules of the Supreme Court, 2025. The petition sought that the former prime minister be shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for proper evaluation and treatment by a retina specialist.
The application also sought permission from Khan’s personal doctors, Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Asim Yousaf, to have access to him and participate in his medical examination and treatment. Additionally, the court was asked to ensure that his family members are informed and given reasonable access during the medical process.
However, the Supreme Court Clerk’s Office returned the petition with objections. He referred to an earlier order dated February 12, which said that if the petitioner had a complaint, he should approach the appropriate forum – namely the Islamabad High Court – where his appeal is already pending.
