
The Corporal Daegan Page Hero’s Scramble will take place at Lake Ridge Golf Course near Beaver Lake Sept. 12-14.
Hosted by the Cpl. Daegan Page Foundation, the golf tournament continues to honor Daegan and the 12 other service members who were killed at the Abbey Gate in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Three hundred and sixty golfers are registered to compete over the course of three days. On Saturday, Daegan’s family and Marines from 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, who served with Daegan in Afghanistan and at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, are scheduled to golf.
Weather permitting, skydivers from the Lincoln Sport Parachute Club and Bravo Zulu Adventure Group will descend onto the golf course each afternoon carrying the American flag and the Gold Star service flag. A special display inside the Lake Ridge Clubhouse will honor all 13 service members who were killed August 26, 2021.
An online auction will kick off at 2 p.m. on Sept. 8 and run through Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Cpl. Daegan Page Foundation.
Air Methods holds hiring event in Omaha
Air Methods held a hiring event and open house at AirCom, its new dispatch center in Omaha, to showcase the life-saving work that teammates do every day.
Guests had the chance to meet crew members, learn about job opportunities across the nation and even begin the application process on site with recruiting specialists.
Air Methods also welcomed students and staff from Creighton University, Metropolitan Community College, and Northwest High School to discuss the career opportunities available within the company.
The highlight of the day came when LifeNet 1-3 from Columbus touched down on the lawn outside AirCom, giving guests the chance to step inside the EC-130 helicopter and meet the crew. Clinicians, pilots, and mechanics from StarCare in Crete and LifeNet 1-1 in Omaha were also at the event to answer questions about their experiences in air medical.
The AirCom dispatch center, which opened in January, handles more than 500,000 phone calls annually, generating approximately 20,000 flight requests each month. The center also coordinates ground ambulance dispatch in multiple states and manages thousands of inter-facility transfers for major hospital systems.
Air Methods owns and operates eight bases in Nebraska and provides aviation services to Omaha Children’s Hospital, Iowa Unity Point, University of Iowa Medical Center, and Iowa MercyOne.

Cure SMA Walk-n-Roll, Sept. 20, 10 a.m.: Looking for a way to get involved and enjoy the outdoors? Join Cure SMA for games, music, snacks and accessible routes that are stroller and mobility device-friendly. Gather to support the search for a cure.
The Intergenerational Orchestra of Omaha, Sept 21, 2 p.m.: The musical ensembles bridges two diverse age groups through the common language of music. The group, which is made up of members either 25 and younger or 55 and older, will perform at Gene Leahy Mall.
LALA Arty Party: Gift Crow Celebration, Sept. 26, 5:30 p.m.: The heart of the event is the debut of “Gift Crow,” a new sculpture by local artist Renee’ A. Ledesma. The evening will also include performances, other artwork and what’s sure to be a lively celebration.
Boomstock, Sept. 27, 4 p.m.: This event, hosted by Boomer Radio at Gene Leahy Mall, will be a night of groovy tunes, good vibes and giving back. It’s more than just a concert celebrating the music of the 1960s and 70s, but also a charity event to support Project Harmony and 50 Mile March Community of Hope.
Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk & Family Festival, Sept. 28, 11 a.m.: Participants will walk together at the Heartland of America Park to raise awareness while enjoying food trucks, games, inflatables, entertainment and more.
Urban Abbey Ministry’s Annual Pet Blessing, Sept. 28, 5 p.m.: at Guests are invited to bring pets to Gene Leahy Mall to be blessed if they are friendly and comfortable with crowds. If your pet is a little shy, you can bring a token of your pet to participate, like a collar or toy. If there is a pet you are missing, guests are invited to bring a photo for a blessing of their memory.

Fall events at Joslyn Castle
Here are some fall events happening at Joslyn Castle:
Story Time, Sept. 15, 5:30 p.m.: The Omaha Public Library brings a storytime adventure, featuring a youth librarian who will transport you to a world of imaginary characters. After story time, there are a hands-on activities and crafts. This free event is best suited for children ages 2-8.
Art Walk, Sept. 18, 5 p.m.: Bring the entire family to the Joslyn Castle neighborhood for an evening of art, food and fun. Our end of season extravaganza will include more than 20 local vendors, opera, skateboarding, poetry and two art shows in the Carriage House.
Ambient Night, Sept. 19, 8 p.m.: Calling all synth enthusiasts! The Carriage House opens its doors for an evening of ambient music performed live by three local artists: Mindscaping by Tob, classic space music by Ladd Doane and the Dylan, the “Mad Scientist” who builds all his own gear. Accompanied by visual projections by Aaron Gum. This event is free.
College of Saint Mary to inaugurate new president
Heather Smith will be inaugurated as the eighth president of College of Saint Mary during an installation ceremony on Sept. 12 at at 3 p.m. in the Lied Fitness Center Fieldhouse on campus.
Local and state politicians, presidents and delegates from other colleges and universities, Archbishop Michael McGovern, former CSM president Maryanne Stevens, the Sisters of Mercy and chair of the CSM Board of Director, will offer messages of support or present Smith with meaningful symbols that represent CSM’s history and dedication to its mission.
The event, which is open to the public, will last about one hour.
Chalk it Up for Brighter Tomorrows
To commemorate Suicide Prevention Month, The Kim Foundation will host its annual Chalk it Up for Brighter Tomorrows campaign from Sept. 7-13.
The campaign invites community members and organizations to gather children, friends, family, neighbors and co-workers to chalk up driveways, sidewalks and parking lots with art and messages that spread hope and inspiration to someone who may need it.
Each year, participants create hundreds of hopeful chalk messages across the Omaha metro to raise awareness about suicide prevention and education.
On Sept. 10, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., The Kim Foundation and Project Harmony will come together to create chalk art in the parking lot shared by the two organizations at 11949 Q Street.
Anyone who participates in Chalk it Up for Brighter Tomorrows is invited to submit photos of chalk art for a chance to win prizes and be featured on The Kim Foundation’s website and social media channels. Breaking the Silence seeks to end mental illness stigma
Community Alliances annual Breaking the Silence event, which seeks to end the stigma associated with mental illness, on Oct. 9 at the Holland Performing Arts Center.
Emmy Award-winning meteorologist Ginger Zee will be the featured speaker for the event. KETV’s Bill Randby will emcee the event.
As the first female chief meteorologist at a major news network and cast member of Good Morning America on ABC News, Zee has covered major weather events from Hurricane Katrina to major wildfires and tornadoes across the United States.
She is a New York Times best-selling author of memoirs “A Little Closer to Home” and “Natural Disaster: I Cover Them, I Am One.”
Her books document her own personal mental health journey, where she opens up about her lifelong battle with depression.
Silicon Prairie Startup Week 2025
Silicon Prairie Startup Week 2025 is set to return Sept. 27 and Oct. 6-11, bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, innovators and community leaders for a weeklong celebration of startup culture across Nebraska.
With events in Omaha and Lincoln, this year’s program features high-energy competitions, industry-driven discussions and unique opportunities for founders to connect and grow.

Conscious Collections Fest
Conscious Collections Fest is back for its fall/winter event from Sept. 18-21, aiming to disrupt the fashion industry by focusing on ethical, local, slow and sustainable fashion.
CCF is not only a sustainable fashion showcase highlighting the community’s slow fashion scene by curating sustainable events centering vintage, upcycling and pre-loved fashion, but it is also about education and giving people resources to make more sustainable choices that support their community.
