Hyderabad: Following the death of 39 bull calves due to ill health last week at the goshala of the Vemulawada temple, authorities have decided to appoint 40 caretakers to oversee hygiene and other arrangements for the bulls.In response to the deaths, officials in Rajanna Sircilla district distributed 750 bulls to farmers who had applied after the administration announced that bulls would be given free of charge to interested applicants. The distribution was completed by June 13. Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha urged the farmers to ensure proper care of the bulls, adding that the administration would also carry out regular health check-ups.On June 14, the administration conducted interviews and selected 40 individuals from a pool of 200 candidates to serve as caretakers at the goshala in Thimmapur, near the Vemulawada temple. Their responsibilities will include maintaining cleanliness and hygiene and properly caring for bulls and bull calves left at the goshala as offerings by temple devotees.Although the goshala was originally designed to accommodate 400 animals, it had become overcrowded with as many as 1,300 bulls and calves donated by devotees. With 350 pairs of bulls distributed so far, the authorities are now focusing on the health and well-being of the remaining animals.
