
GILLETTE, Wyo. – Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Possession of a Controlled Substance – CCSO
A 61-year-old male was pulled over by Gillette Police for a regular traffic stop and requested CCSO’s assistance. Deputies found a discarded bag of marijuana, weighing approximately 4.3 grams, that belonged to the suspect. This was the suspect’s third possession charge, elevating the status of the crime.
Accident – CCSO
Sheriff deputies were alerted of a crash that occurred on Recluse Road in the far north of Campbell County.
The driver of a 2015 Ram 3500 had collided with and killed two cows on the remote road, leaving him uninjured and his vehicle damaged. It was unable to drive, so it had to be towed out of the area.
Destruction of Property – CCSO
According to CCSO, a 23-year-old female and 23-year-old male were in the process of ending their relationship and moving out their belongings from a shared residence. The female recruited the help of a 38-year-old female friend. While helping her move the things, the 38-year-old allegedly used a knife to carve two five-inch-long cuts into the male’s 2016 Ford F350.
The 38-year-old was cited for destruction of property. Because the incisions were down to the car’s bare metal, it was estimated that damages exceeded $1,000.
Fraud – GPD
A 43-year-old male called the Gillette Police Department to report that he may be the victim of fraud. He had reportedly been in conversations with another male online for some time, who had been requesting the caller send him bitcoin.
According to the caller, he sent the unknown man upwards of $20,000 worth of the currency. This incident is still under investigation, according to the GPD.
Theft – GPD
A 76-year-old male employee at East Side Motors called to report the theft of a 2022 Sunray camper had been stolen from the business’s lot sometime between 7 p.m. June 30 and 1:30 p.m. July 1.
The black and white trailer is estimated to be worth $26,818. The investigation is ongoing.
