‘BOOK IT NOW’: The Harry Potter experience fans say you simply can’t miss

From the “real-life” Hogwarts in Oxford to filming locations used for the likes of Diagon Alley and Platform 9 ¾ in London, there is a long list of iconic Harry Potter sites scattered across the UK.

The new HBO Harry Potter TV series – starring the likes of Nick Frost (Hagrid), John Lithgow (Dumbledore), and Katherine Parkinson (Molly Weasley) – has begun filming, and is set to introduce a whole new generation to the magical world of Harry Potter.

The Harry Potter franchise already boasts billions of fans worldwide, thanks to J.K. Rowling’s seven books and the 11 films (including the Fantastic Beasts movies) that followed.

The famous British writer came up with the story right here in the UK, with locations across the country thought to have played a key role in inspiring events and characters in the book.

The movies were also shot in the UK, with the likes of London, Edinburgh and Oxford used for filming.

For those Potterheads hoping to catch a glimpse of some of these world-famous Harry Potter locations, there is a range of tours available that are a must try.

Harry Potter fans will know that London is a key filming location when it comes to the movies.

The experience comes highly recommended by visitors, with one commenting: “Our guide was Nick Longbottom and he was fabulous!

“We thoroughly enjoyed our muggle tour around London, recreating poses from the films and seeing parts of London that we didn’t even know were there!

“As huge fans we were stunned to learn new facts and absolutely loved everything about this whole experience.

For those looking to take in all the iconic Harry Potter sites in London without as much walking, this sightseeing bus tour is for you (some walking is required).

Oxford University is home to several Harry Potter filming locations, including the Bodleian Library (used for Hogwarts hospital wing and library) and Christ Church College (Hogwarts Great Hall and staircase).
