Tom Lee’s major ETH move got the crypto aficionados buzzing: is staking the way to go forward?
BitMine Immersion Technologies has disclosed a massive staked Ether position that it values at about $6.0 billion, turning the once-niche crypto treasury play into one of the largest single corporate exposures to Ethereum’s yield mechanics.
In an update circulated in the crypto press, the firm said it holds roughly 3,040,483 staked ETH, using an ETH reference price near $1,976. The company also said its combined crypto, cash and high-risk “moonshot” bucket totals about $9.9B.
A Big Corporate Treasury Play That Looks More Like Infrastructure
The headline figure is the claimed scale: BitMine framed its stake as around 3.71% of Ethereum’s estimated circulating supply of 120.7 million. Even allowing for the usual caveats around supply and staking accounting, the number implies a balance-sheet footprint that would rival major ecosystem participants, not just public-company treasuries.
Alongside the disclosure, BitMine said it recently added 50,928 ETH. It also pointed to progress on a staking initiative branded as its MAVAN network, with a targeted launch in Q1 2026. Details on architecture, counterparties, and how the company manages validator concentration risk were not fully spelled out in the brief summaries making the rounds.
The announcement landed as ETH briefly pushed above $2,000 in recent trading, a move that also lifted BitMine’s publicly traded shares in session, according to market coverage.
Why Investors Care: Staking Yield, Liquidity & Concentration Risk
Big ETH treasuries are no longer just directional bets on price. They’re also bets on staking yield, lockup terms, slashing risk, and the operational plumbing required to keep rewards flowing. A corporate holder at this size can end up entangled with questions that typically sit with custodians, exchanges, and validator operators.
It also puts a spotlight on liquidity. Staked ETH can be redeemable, but exits at scale can still create timing and market-impact questions — especially in volatile months when ETH is struggling to decisively reclaim key levels above $2,000.
For crypto investors, BitMine’s move is another signal that “treasury companies” are evolving into quasi-financial intermediaries — taking protocol risk in exchange for yield — while the market keeps debating whether the current cycle is setting a durable bottom or just staging tradable rallies.
