Krypto the Superdog, a dog with the powers of Superman, has been around in DC Comics since the 1950s, but never appeared in a Superman movie until last year’s Superman, maybe because directors and writers thought he was too cheesy or campy. They were apparently wrong, because Krypto pretty much stole the show from Superman (David Corenswet) himself, even inspiring a surge of dog adoption.
Krypto will return in this year’s Supergirl, which will follow Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock), who showed up at the end of Superman to collect her dog; recall that Superman was only watching Krypto while she was away. The movie, the latest entry into James Gunn’s retooled DC Universe, will follow Supergirl and Krypto as they travel across the galaxy. It’s set after the end of Superman, but apparently there will be flashbacks, too, since Gunn just tweeted a picture of a young puppy Krypto:
You can also see glimpses of Baby Krypto in a new teaser trailer, which mostly reuses footage from earlier trailers but with a few new shots mixed in. At the beginning, Baby Krypto scampers up to Supergirl and she scoops him into her arms. “Who are you?” she asks. Watch it below:
The Cuteness of Baby Krypto Will Surely Destroy Us All
Krypto was already a highlight of Superman, and that was as a full-grown dog. As a puppy, he will have even more power over our hearts and minds. Supergirl is already expected to be a hit when it lands in theaters on June 26, 2026. With Baby Krypto’s help, it could be the biggest movie of the year.
In addition to Milly Alcock, Supergirl stars Matthias Schoenaerts (as the space pirate Krem of the Yellow Hills), Eve Ridley (as Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young girl who recruits Supergirl into her quest to avenge her father’s death), David Krumholtz (as Supergirl’s father Zor-El), Emily Beecham (as Supergirl’s mother Alura In-Ze), and Jason Momoa as Lobo, a loudmouth space bounty hunter. And expect a cameo from David Corenswet’s Superman, as well.
