Apple’s next big hardware moment is right around the corner, and according to a new report, the company is preparing to launch its first M5-powered devices, marking another leap for its custom silicon. The company will see fit to launch its highly anticipated iPad Pro, Vision Pro, and MacBook Pro devices as soon as this week.
Mark Gurman writes in his latest Power On newsletter that Apple’s latest product launch is imminent, and all signs point to new MacBook Pro, Vision Pro, and iPad Pro models leading the lineup. Apple’s M5 chip will debut first in the iPad Pro, and we have already seen an alleged unboxing video from a Russian YouTuber.
The same processor is also expected to power the 14-inch MacBook Pro, following Apple’s pattern of giving the smaller Pro the first taste of each new chip generation. Gurman claims that the new iPad Pro and Vision Pro are imminent, but it is likely that the M5 MacBook Pro will also see daylight soon.
The updates will bring significant performance upgrades to the table, coupled with efficiency gains for longer battery life. However, both devices will not undergo any major design changes this year, as the company has big plans in the coming years. Here’s how the expected lineup stands based on the report.
While Apple keeps everything under wraps, retail stock shortages of the current MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models suggest that replacements are ready to be announced soon. Gurman’s “imminent” claims suggest that the company will launch the new devices soon, possibly via press releases rather than a full-fledged event.
It is also reported that the company will see fit to delay the higher-end M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models, likely until the first half of next year. What this means is that the company is only debuting the base variant of the chip, keeping the higher-performance variants reserved for another day.
