The Steelers’ star edge rusher wants to see Aaron Rodgers back.
The possibility of Aaron Rodgers returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2026 season continues to gain momentum, and linebacker Alex Highsmith is the latest player to publicly express optimism about the veteran quarterback’s future with the team.
Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy and the organization have made it clear they are open to a Rodgers return, and sentiment within the locker room appears to mirror that stance. Following the conclusion of the season, multiple reports indicated that players spoke highly of Rodgers during exit interviews, emphasizing his leadership, experience, and impact on the team.
Highsmith echoed those sentiments while appearing on The Sick Podcast during Super Bowl media week. When asked directly whether he believes Rodgers will be back with the Steelers next season, Highsmith acknowledged there is still uncertainty but pointed to encouraging signs.
“We’ll see. I don’t 100% know yet,” Highsmith said. “But I’m assuming us hiring Coach McCarthy there could be a good chance, for sure. I don’t know, but we do hope he comes back.”
Rodgers, 43, has a long and successful history with McCarthy dating back to their Super Bowl-winning run with the Green Bay Packers. That familiarity, combined with Rodgers’ repeated praise of the Steelers organization throughout last season, has fueled speculation that a return to Pittsburgh is a realistic possibility.
While no official decision has been announced, the growing public support from both coaches and players suggests that Rodgers’ presence in Pittsburgh left a strong impression. As the offseason progresses, all signs point to the four-time NFL MVP seriously considering another year in black and gold.
