James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he’s not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.
Steam is full of impressive RPGs from teams of all sizes, each with their own unique set of charms and features that make them standout in the genre. That said, a game that combines elements of classics like Zelda and Skyrim is surely one that’s worth looking at.
Whether you’re into fast-paced gameplay, building a unique character or aesthetic choices like the overall art style, there’s a little something out there in the store for everyone, but one upcoming effort looks like it’s set to really stand out when it hits a full launch.
Drakantos Looks Like A Blend Of Zelda And Skyrim
Drakantos is a free-to-play MMORPG with a unique pixel art style that immediately transports me (and presumably others) back to the golden era of gaming in the 90s. Obviously, this effort is considerably prettier than those, presented in a beautiful high definition with considerably more detail than those old consoles would allow.
Rather than allowing the player to create their own character which slots into pre-defined classes, the developer has chosen a considerably more ingenious idea. In it, players can select their avatar from a choice of 21 heroes, each of which comes with their own unique set of powers and abilities.
The idea here is to allow players to team up in different ways, combining traits and systems to create devastating attacks as a group. In even better news, the developer has promised to add new heroes with each major update, so the opportunity to experiment shouldn’t run out any time soon.
As with most MMOs, there is an emphasis on multiplayer, but much of the game’s content can completely be enjoyed solo. Alongside that, there are a ton of other fun features, including housing, a market system, guilds and global events, with more set to be revealed in the run-up to launch.
It’s also a bit of a collector’s dream, with dozens of pets to get your hands on and more than 30 emotes per hero, so you can socialize with the game’s base a little more freely.
This Free-To-Play RPG Is Coming Soon
The only slight caveat to all of that great stuff is that the game doesn’t have a release date just yet, though when it does, you won’t have to part with any of your hard-earned cash to get in on the fun.
