In a press release on December 30, Nasdaq-listed Cypherpunk Technologies expanded its corporate Zcash treasury with an additional 56,418.09 ZEC. The privacy coins were acquired for approximately $29 million at an average price of $514.02 per ZEC.
With the latest purchase, Cypherpunk’s total Zcash holdings increased to 290,062.67 ZEC, representing about 1.76% of the total circulating supply of Zcash.
The company acquired the total ZEC holdings at an average price of $334.41 per ZEC. The latest acquisition follows a series of strategic purchases over the preceding months.
Cypherpunk Technologies’ goal is to accumulate 5% of the Zcash network. “As our Zcash position grows, we are well positioned for a market that is repricing the societal importance of privacy,” said Will McEvoy, CIO of Cypherpunk.
The company plans to continue its ZEC accumulation strategy, while expanding work across a broader range of privacy-preserving technologies and initiatives.
Cypherpunk (CYPH) stock price jumped 1.69% to $1.20 in premarket trading hours on Tuesday. This comes as traders respond immediately to $29 million in ZEC purchase.
It closed lower at $1.18 on Monday, with an intraday high of $1.21. Trading volume was also lower than the average volumes of 24 million.
Institutional interest in privacy coins such as Zcash is increasing as regulatory clarity is pushing privacy back into focus, according to Grayscale.
Moreover, the institutional support has led to outperformance among privacy-oriented tokens.
Zcash functions similarly to Bitcoin but includes optional privacy protections through “shielded” transactions and accounts.
In 2025, Zcash faced delistings and trading restrictions, with Binance FZE and BitOasis removing the coin for users in the U.A.E. due to regulatory compliance concerns.
ZEC price has jumped more than 3% in the past 24 hours, with the price currently trading at $539. The 24-hour low and high were $521.84 and $554.18, respectively.
Furthermore, trading volume has increased by 6% in the last 24 hours. This indicates that interest among traders persists in Zcash.
BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes expected Zcash to reach $1000. He cited privacy narrative demand, institutional interest, and supply dynamics as contributing factors.
Crypto analyst Johnny predicted a rally to $700 if it breaks above $545 level. He highlighted a 30% upside in a week.
Analyst Crypto Tony claimed that only a few altcoins such as ZEC saw big pumps. He predicts $540 as the key level for the bulls to hold for a new ATH push.
CoinGlass data showed buying in the derivatives market. At the time of writing, the total ZEC futures open interest jumped 0.50% to $1.25 billion in the last 24 hours.
The 4-hour ZEC futures OI was up 0.92%, with a 0.40% jump on Binance and more than 4% surge on OKX. This signals bullish sentiment among derivatives traders.
