Arranged to take place at Beau Sejour, the drive will give islanders interested in volunteering with or working for the commission an opportunity to meet the team and learn more about what they do.
‘I got my job at a recruitment drive and that’s how I started with the Youth Commission four years ago,’ said youth engagement team lead Hayley Winter.
‘We need more people on our teams so we thought we’d try it again, ramping it up to be bigger and better. We really just want to create a welcoming space where people can come by if they’re interested and can learn about all our different services.’
The Youth Commission is a charity that offers various forms of support to children, adolescents and families in the Bailiwick, from running youth clubs to visiting families with children under five to allow parents some respite.
The commission has roles for both volunteers and job-seekers across a wide range of its teams.
‘We’re really just looking for people who are about giving back to the community,’ said Miss Winter.
‘It’s also nice to show what each of our groups do, because I think a lot of people think that maybe we only do youth clubs or we only do counselling, and they don’t know about all the different services we offer.’
In addition to their clubs, counselling and ‘Home Start’ family support services, the commission also provides mentoring, bereavement support, and access to the Duke of Edinburgh award programme that some children may otherwise be unable to access.
The recruitment drive will be held at Beau Sejour on Saturday 28 February between 10am and noon, and will be open for any interested person to drop by.
