The Progressive Youth Ambassadors have launched a nationwide grassroots sensitisation programme to educate Nigerians on the policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and promote public understanding of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The launch comes at a time when the Tinubu administration is implementing major reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, unification of the foreign exchange market, civil service and tax reforms, and financial system re-engineering.
While these measures aim to strengthen Nigeria’s economy, attract investment, and improve citizens’ welfare, some have been misunderstood or politicised, making effective public engagement critical.
Speaking at the Lagos summit where the programme was unveiled, Mr. Charles Olufemi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Progressive Youth Ambassadors, said: “Participants will return to their communities to educate citizens on the rationale behind these reforms and their short- and long-term benefits.
Much like surgery, reforms may cause temporary discomfort, but they are necessary for lasting healing and shared prosperity.”
The summit, hosted by the Secretary to the Government of Lagos State, Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, and chaired by Dr. Hafsat Oduwole-Balewa, Chairperson of the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone, brought together youth leaders and political stakeholders.
Barr. Salu-Hundeyin commended the youths for their commitment to progressive values, urging them to intensify mobilisation at the grassroots. She noted:
“It is important for citizens to understand government efforts to address economic challenges and insecurity. Youths play a critical role in bridging the gap between policy and public understanding.”
Dr. Oduwole-Balewa highlighted the positive impact of the government’s policies, saying: “These reforms are already attracting international investors back to Nigeria, creating jobs, boosting revenue, and improving livelihoods across communities. Youths must carry this message to their communities in local languages for maximum reach.”
The programme will cover key policy areas including job creation, MSME support, agricultural revitalisation, digital economy expansion, student loan reforms, infrastructure development, and social investment restructuring.
Also in attendance were the Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism, Ambassador Bisoye Fagade, and Ibadan-born politician Dr. Adewale Kareem.
Mr. Olufemi stressed that sustained grassroots engagement is essential: “Policies alone are not enough; citizens must understand their purpose and benefits.
By engaging communities directly, we hope to foster acceptance and active participation in Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation.”
The Progressive Youth Ambassadors’ initiative demonstrates the growing role of youth-led advocacy in strengthening public trust and participation in government reforms, ensuring that citizens are informed and empowered to contribute to national development.
