A new pilot mentorship programme led by the York and North Yorkshire Growth Hub aims to connect local mentors with small businesses to support their next stage of growth.
The Mentoring for Growth Programme promises to support small businesses across York and North Yorkshire that are ready to grow, scale, and move confidently into their next stage.
The pilot will match local business owners and leaders with mentors from outside their industry, helping them to develop the core, non-technical skills that underpin sustainable business growth.
David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, said: “When you’re in business you know that you can learn a lot from others, but it’s difficult to find someone you can rely on for support as you develop new ideas.

The programme seeks both mentors and mentees to take part. Applications are open to experienced business professionals who are interested in becoming mentors, as well as small business owners and individuals in leadership roles who would benefit from additional support and perspective.
Participants will benefit from a supportive environment where mentees can explore challenges with someone who understands the realities of running a business. Mentors will bring fresh thinking from outside the mentee’s sector, helping to develop new ideas, build confidence, and open doors to wider networks and opportunities.
